The Spirit Of The West Meets Sunbelt Success
Amarillo is the largest city in the Texas panhandle and the seat of Potter County. The city also extends into Randall County. Amarillo is the economic hub of the panhandle as well. Ranching, farming, energy production, manufacturing and food processing are among the drivers of the local economy.
Art is at home here. Cadillac Ranch is an internationally famous sculpture created by sinking a series of classic autos into the ground, tailfins up. It’s one of the most talked about pieces of public art ever created. The Amarillo Museum of Art features a diverse collection and includes the Price Gallery of Asian Art. The Amarillo Opera and the Lone Star Ballet are also cultural highlights. The English Field Air and Space Museum and the Don Herrington Discovery Center and Space Theater appeal to science and technology fans of all ages.
Of course, the spirit of the American West looms large in Amarillo. The Kwahadi Kiva Indian Museum and the American Quarter Horse Heritage Center and Museum both have a home here, as do the Tri-State Fair and Rodeo and the WRCA World Championship Ranch Rodeo.
A number of natural attractions surround the city, most notably Palo Duro Canyon State Park. It features the second-largest canyon system in the United States, bested only by the Grand Canyon. Hiking, camping, horseback riding and more can all be enjoyed at the park. Travel publisher Fodor’s rates Palo Duro as America’s number one state park.
BSA Hospital, the flagship of Ardent’s facilities in Amarillo, is truly a jewel of our system. Renovations and upgrades are underway now that include a $25 million Emergency Department. The facility and its culture of excellence earn strong positive reviews from physicians, nurses and staff and patients alike.
