We have an exciting opportunity to join our Risk Management team as a Safety Specialist.

The Safety Specialist is responsible for OSHA and environmental compliance requirements, company safety programs and injury prevention initiatives. Manages the overall Safety program and implementation of the Return to Work Program (RTWP), allocation program, ergonomic and environmental assessments and provides feedback during construction programs. In addition, the Safety Specialist assists with the Emergency Response efforts, Industrial Hygiene monitoring, and Waste Management and assists the Manager, Workers' Compensation with reporting and analytics.


  • Develops training programs regarding safety procedures that comply with Corporate, federal, state, and local regulations
  • Performs field observations/site visits to identify unsafe conditions/safety hazards, unsafe actions, and environmental issues. Develops corrective actions plans and ensures resolution of issues.
  • Assists with Emergency Response programs including water mitigation plans, Environment of Care, etc.
  • Review return to work exams and attempts to find accommodation within the healthcare system.
  • Reviews accident reports to identify patterns of injury and to determine whether unsafe conditions contributed to the accident; advises Manager, Workers' Compensation and HR managers of trends in injuries and proper safety procedures that may result in reduction of injuries.
  • Investigation environmental claims.
  • Provides feedback in construction projects to eliminate hazards and comply with safety regulations.
  • Facilitates monthly calls with safety officers/HR managers to discuss best practices.
  • Assist the Manager, Workers' Compensation in projects as needed.
  • Assist in risk management due diligence on potential acquisitions.
  • Writer of articles for the Risk Management Newsletter.



  • Associate Degree or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Safety Engineering or related field or a combination of education and related experience
  • CSP certification a plus


  • Must have 2 to 5 years of experience in occupational safety and environmental management
  • Multi state experience preferred

Additional Requirements:

  • Experience in healthcare field preferred
  • Experience performing ergonomic assessments or must obtain certification upon completion of an ergonomics training program within the first three months of hire
  • Data-based computer experience preferred
  • Excel knowledge a plus
  • General insurance knowledge preferred
  • ARM certification a plus
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time
