Software Licensing Manager

We have an exciting opportunity to join our information technology team as a Software Licensing Manager.

Under general supervision, the Software Licensing Manager is to acquire, support, manage, and administer software and application products across the organization. This position will also support IT Shared Services/Operations staff and managers in order to efficiently deliver software and applications and to ensure licensing compliance.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Software Acquisition
  • Responsible for company software purchases and follows documented purchasing procedures.
  • Ensures proper approvals are in place for purchase requests and renewals of existing software.
  • Generates purchase orders and accounting support to ensure software is purchased and charged to the correct departments and that invoices are paid.
  • Analyze purchase records and other entitlement information to negotiate pricing on new and existing products.
  • Negotiate terms, conditions of sale and warranties of software applications with key suppliers/vendors.
Software Inventory
  • Compile and maintain inventory of company software licenses and systems assets for the purpose of tracking and compliance reporting.
  • Administers and controls software license key distribution to IT support staff.
Software Compliance
  • Understands Product Use Rights, license allowances and contractual entitlements for software products and manufacturers.
  • Monitor licenses for compliance through software inventory scans; initiating corrective actions when non-compliance issues arise.
  • Maintains a single license repository of all software compliance documentation, Proof of Purchase, Invoices, Certificates, Entitlements, Contracts, Master Agreements, etc.
  • Supports Internal and external software compliance audits.
  • Performs software audits on a regular basis.
  • Complete other duties as assigned
Software Evaluation
  • Coordinate with major software vendors and IT&S staff pilot programs for software evaluations
Supplier Management
  • Manages licensing and maintenance programs with Microsoft, VMware, Citrix, RedHat, Oracle, and other major vendors.
  • Manages software maintenance renewals for IT Shared Services/Operations and other business units.
  • Manages IT&S contracts database to ensure contracts are renewed, revised, or cancelled appropriately

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Provides input and guidance to identify process deficiencies and analyze problems and solutions.

Education

  • Required- Bachelor’s Degree with a concentration in Computer Science, Accounting, Finance or equivalent experience.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 to 10 years of experience in software license management.

  • Working knowledge of software licensing requirements and/or how to research software licensing requirements.

  • Demonstrated experience as a lead negotiator on Microsoft Enterprise Agreements covering at least 20,000 end users

  • Demonstrated experience as a lead negotiator in at least one or more of the following

    • Citrix

    • EMC

    • Cisco software and hardware agreements covering software, networking and compute equipment

    • Security software for products such as vulnerability management, anti-virus software, Identity Access Management, single sign-on, and disk and peripheral encryption software Oracle

    • Working knowledge of contracting language used in complex, comprehensive agreements related to multi-billion dollar companies.

    • Familiarity and experience with software licensing and License Use Rights

    • Experience with SNOW or similar products that track software usage Strong mathematical and financial analysis skills to build ROI models.
