OUR POSITION: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a VP, Clinical Applications & Informatics.

The overall responsibility of the Vice President, Clinical Applications & Informatics is to provide leadership and direction in the design, implementation and support of all clinical software applications in use throughout the enterprise.  This includes ensuring the systems are supported for all users, managing a regimented maintenance schedule for the applications, and ensuring all applications are in compliance with Ardent policies, procedures and standards.  In addition, the VP, Clinical Applications & Informatics is responsible for managing the both the inpatient and outpatient Informatics teams under the direction of the AVP Clinical Inpatient and AVP Clinical Outpatient positions. The position is also responsible for managing the operating and strategic budgets for the clinical services and functions, managing resources to ensure appropriate staffing levels are attained to achieve defined objectives, and mitigating risk and issues between the clinical and application teams.  Must be an intelligent, articulate and persuasive leader who can serve as an effective member of the Ardent IT management team.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Analysis and Solution Definition

  • Track industry trends and practices to stay on the forefront of the clinical applications and informatics field and is a thought leader responsible for developing and adopting leading evidence-based practices.
  • Develops the organizational approach for ongoing optimization of technology solutions to support clinicians in their daily practice, as well as the methodology and tools for clinical technology implementations throughout the enterprise.
  • Oversees Clinical and Informatics day-to-day operations including staff management and development, budget, policies, and procedures.
  • Quickly understands the business issues and data challenges of the organization and industry.
  • Develops relationships with strategic vendors to ensure alignment and knowledge of vision and product directions.
  • Identifies the organization's strengths and weaknesses and suggests areas of improvement.
  • Develops and executes structured problem management processes and embeds into team structures
  • Ensures appropriate documentation and controls of all aspects of application and informatics support is in place
  • Develops strategic plan on an annual basis in partnership with the business community to ensure application strategy and capabilities are in alignment with overall company objectives.
  • Coordinates with other IT Teams to ensure consistency and standardization of Ardent clinical applications technology, order sets, and medication formulary are maintained.

Project Execution

  • Appropriately plans for resources and staging of strategic projects to meet the objectives of the annual strategic plan.
  • Ensures project delivery teams follow and execute formal delivery methods for project success.
  • Participates as key stakeholder on all major project initiatives and communicates with business stakeholders on risk, issues and status.
  • Enforces project deadlines and schedules and mitigates risk appropriately  
  • Consistently delivers high-quality services to business stakeholders.

Communication

  • Oversees the communication activities in coordination with business stakeholders and IT&S management team.
  • Conducts regular communications with teams to provide feedback and closed loop channel for continued improvement.
  • Delivers informative, well-organized presentations.
  • Understands how to communicate difficult/sensitive information tactfully.

Problem Solving

  • Prioritizes and resolves issues.
  • Leads and oversees the problem escalation model to address risk and communications with business and IT&S leadership
  • Provides ongoing analysis, maintenance, and technical and functional support for application systems throughout the organization. 
  • Provides leadership and technical guidance to identify system deficiencies and analyze system problems and solutions.
  • Exhibits confidence and an extensive knowledge of emerging industry practices when solving business problems.
  • Collaborates with business stakeholders to introduce innovative solutions.

  • Works in partnership with IT Management Team to ensure consistency in Technology Architecture and operating procedures.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent business experience, required in clinical or healthcare industry.

Experience

  • At least 12 years of experience in managing an application and informatics teams in a healthcare environment.
  • 5+ years of leading teams of 25+ direct and indirect reports
  • At least 5 years of experience of direct financial and budget responsibilities
  • Familiarity with provider clinical workflow and processes
  • Subject matter expertise in multiple clinical and ancillary application modules/solutions with experience in Epic a plus.
  • Proven ability to understand business and clinical issues and objectives as well as the ability to translate them into application solutions.
  • Established manager of large scale large projects within a program with experience ensuring project components including the following:
    • Standard work breakdown structure
    • Resources and critical path
    • Project scope
    • Issue identification and oversight
    • Change control processes
    • Stakeholder communications
    • Project budget
    • Strong communicator, organized, experience working with senior and e.
    • Understands Internet, Intranet and client/server architectures.
    • Excellent communication, presentation and organization skills.
