OUR POSITION: We have an exciting opportunity to join our Risk Management team as an Assistant Vice President, Risk Management.

The AVP, Risk Management develops and maintains risk management programs that are designed to identify, eliminate or reduce, and insure against potential risks to AHS and its subsidiaries. This involves a combination of risk management functions including risk management education and support to the field, claims oversight and management/support of insurance program.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist VP, Risk Management in new business development activities by providing due diligence on new ventures/acquisitions.
  • Procures outside loss prevention services.
  • Oversees the TPA services agreement, which contains the following components: reporting procedures, services instructions, billing audit and compliance with Medicare/ Medicaid regulations.
  • Oversees the surety program.
  • Review contracts insurance requirements and provides recommendations.
  • Plans and implements facility-system wide program for both loss prevention and loss contract.
  • Stay abreast of current issues in patient safety in order to better support the field risk managers with resources. This includes travel to business unit locations for meetings, provision of educational offerings and to perform loss prevention site surveys.
  • Provide risk/loss prevention education/training programs for facilities. Orient and train newly hired field risk managers.
  • Identification of incident/event trends with direction/guidance in implementation of improvement actions to prevent recurrence. This includes management and control of the incident reporting process and systems.
  • Claims administration oversight for environmental, auto, property, crime, aviation, etc. claims.
  • Assist in the underwriting of insurance coverages in order to obtain the broadest coverage for the most cost effective price; assist in establishment reporting processes to carriers and provide education/oversight to field regarding compliance with reporting.
  • Maintain day to day responsibilities relating to the upkeep of various insurance programs, including reporting changes, coordinating audits, etc.
  • Identification of new opportunities for departmental impact towards lowering the total cost of risk. Create projects designed to assist others within the organization to effect such cost reductions.
  • Editor/Coordinator of Risk Management Department Newsletter.
  • Co-chair Risk Management Practice Council.
  • Co-chair Safety and Oversight Committee.
  • Supervises department staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Education and Work Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • CPHRM, ARM or CPCU certification preferred
  • Registered Nurse license preferred
  • Minimum eight (8) years of risk management experience, preferably with experience in corporate environment overseeing multiple locations
  • Experience in Insurance, Claims Management, Employee Health & Workers’ Compensation Modules beneficial
  • Ability to travel up to 15%
