OUR POSITION: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a VP, Data Sciences and Analytics.

Position Summary

The Assistant Vice President (AVP), Data Sciences and Analytics will provide leadership and direction to Ardent’s Business Intelligence Reporting, Data Warehouse, Epic Reporting Suite, Data Governance, Production and Test Interface Engines, ETL Extract and Data Mapping and Conversion Groups.  The successful applicant will have a wide range of technical competencies including: statistics and machine learning, coding languages, databases, machine learning, and reporting technologies.

Strategic responsibilities will include reviewing and providing direction of Ardent’s current and future data models and its accompanying storage priority. Day to day responsibilities will include reviewing, quantifying and prioritizing incoming request across the many groups managed as well as a diverse user community looking to utilize these services.  This position will interface with Ardent’s executive, clinical, financial and operational leaders, the candidate’s ability to communicate at the strategic as well as the tactical levels of the organization.

In addition the AVP, Data Sciences and Analytics is responsible for developing system strategies in coordination with designated vendors, developing and managing the operating and strategic budgets for the application functions, managing resources to ensure appropriate staffing levels are attained to achieve defined objectives, and mitigating risk and issues between the business and application teams.  Must be an intelligent, articulate and persuasive leader who can serve as an effective member of the Ardent IT management team.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Quickly understands the business issues and data challenges of the organization  
  • Develops relationships with strategic stakeholders to ensure alignment and knowledge of data utilization and direction
  • Develops and executes structured problem solving processes and embeds them into team structures
  • Ensures appropriate documentation and controls of all aspects of the teams work product
  • Develops strategic plan on an annual basis in partnership with the business community to ensure data reporting and strategy are in alignment with overall company objectives
  • Coordinates with Corporate Application Leadership to ensure consistency and standardization of Ardent data structures and models is maintained
  • Participates as key stakeholder on all major project initiatives and communicates with business stakeholders on risk, issues and status
  • Enforces project deadlines and schedules and mitigates risk appropriately 
  • Consistently delivers high-quality services to business stakeholders
  • Conducts regular communications with teams to provide feedback and closed loop channel for continued improvement
  • Delivers informative, well-organized presentations
  • Understands how to communicate difficult/sensitive information tactfully
  • Exhibits confidence and an extensive knowledge of emerging industry practices when using data to solve business problems
  • Collaborates with business stakeholders to introduce innovative solutions

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in data sciences, healthcare administration or IT.  Master’s degree is preferred.

Experience

  • At least 15 years of experience in managing data management teams in a healthcare or related industry
  • At least 10 years’ experience with financial forecast and budget responsibilities
  • Proven ability to understand business and clinical issues and objectives as well as the ability to translate them into reports, dashboards, and projections
  • Familiarity or practical use of the following tools Python, Hadoop, SQL, Apache Spark, machine learning and data visualization
  • At least 5 years directly managing direct reports and groups of 30 or more engineers and architects
  • Excellent communication, presentation and organization skills.
  • Subject matter expertise in programming, statistics, machine learning, linear algebra and calculus, data visualization, communication, data wrangling and software engineering
