OUR POSITION: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Director, Physician Recruitment.

The Director, Physician Recruitment is responsible for developing the recruiting department infrastructure, and maximizing department efficiency and productivity to support corporate recruitment services. Provides quality physician candidates for each of the physician organizations within Ardent Health Services.  This role will function at the Ardent corporate headquarters in Nashville, Tennessee. 

The Director, Physician Recruitment manages recruiting programs that relate to these corporate physician recruitment and physician employment searches and performs the following duties. 

  • Plans, develops, and directs strategic physician recruitment and physician employment programs, while developing and managing a comprehensive physician candidate database.. Responsible for planning in accordance with the needs and goals of the organization. 
  • Continually develops improvements to recruiting and staffing processes such as physician sourcing and selection. Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Functions as the Corporate Executive Liaison to “community need services vendors”, and also external “national physician search firms” for physician recruitment engagements.  This function includes both contingency recruiters and retained recruiters.
  • Initiates the strategies needed to recruit physician candidates for targeted markets.  Provides guidance to the Physician Recruiters on possible candidate sources, including national and local internet advertising, and direct mail. Develops a comprehensive physician candidate database including updated physician curriculum vitae (CV).
  • Represents Ardent Health Services at select medical specialty meetings, medical and residency schools, specialty physician trade shows, and executive liaison to specialty physician trade publications.
  • Responsible for the pre-screening and evaluation of each physician candidate’s background and work history, including education, credit history, driving history, criminal history, social security verification, and clinical training and skills, prior to turning over physician credentials to the hospital medical staff office for consideration of medical staff membership.
  • Demonstrates the ability to manage and lead recruitment efforts through successful multiple, simultaneous candidate searches.  Ensures the timely completion of daily activities, projects and goals that are assigned to department staff.
  • Coordinates with the administrators in each of the markets to develop and recruit for “medical staff development plans” and “community needs assessments” for the benefit of Ardent Health Services physician organizations. 
  • Interfaces with each market’s Public Relations and Communications department on an effective physician marketing program, to attract quality physicians through promotion of the Ardent’s local hospitals, practices, and metropolitan area.
  • Collaborates with Corporate Marketing to provide marketing, and advertising services in physician trade publications for sourcing physicians in alignment with the strategic plans for the market hospitals and medical groups. 
  • Gathers, processes and reports physician trends to market administrators, and corporate administration.
  • Works collaboratively with legal counsel, and market leadership on the development and execution of all types of physician recruitment contracts and support package for potential physician recruits.  Ensures that recruiting practices are within accepted legal regulations such as antitrust. 
  • Tracks employment and recruitment agreements through the “ImageNow” contracting system.
  • Collaborates with health systems and physician organization CEO’s in assessing the immediate and long-term need for recruiting targeted physicians for the market; collaborates with market leadership in developing strategies for attracting a proper mix of primary care, specialists, and surgical physicians to the market area.
  • Establishes and manages formal policies and procedures to ensure effective and efficient efforts to recruit physicians.
  • Collaborates with market recruiters on preparations and provides guidance and direction to medical group CEOs and staff on conducting successful local market physician interview site visits. (schools, entertainment, restaurants, cultural events, housing, athletics, points of interest, etc.) 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree is required, Master’s Degree is preferred
  • ASPR (American Society of Physician Recruiters) Certification preferred.

  Experience

  • At least 7-10 years of direct experience physician recruiting in a corporate office, or local healthcare system, or within a major multi-specialty physician organization.
  • Physician recruiting and management in healthcare is required, and recruiting agency experience is preferred.
