Serving Montclair and the surrounding communities for more than a century, Mountainside
Medical Center offers an array of high-quality, technologically advanced health care
services. Significant capital improvements have been made to the emergency department,
women’s services and patient navigation of the medical center as well as upgrades to
medical technology, including new state-of-the-art MRI, CT, nuclear medicine and telemetry
systems. In addition, Mountainside Medical Group continues to grow with the addition of
new physicians in primary care, obstetrics and gynecology and a breast care specialist.
The development of a new medical office building will enable Mountainside Medical Center
to further enhance the scope and quality of comprehensive care services, while bringing
additional economic and quality of life benefits to the community.

We are actively searching for an experienced HR professional to lead our team as Vice President(VP) of Human Resources. This postion will report to the CEO and manage all employees in the HR department.

The VP of Human Resources is responsible for directing all of the people functions of the Hospital in accordance with the policies and practices of the Company, the ethical and social consciences of business and society and the laws, regulations and administrative rulings of governmental organizations and other regulatory and advisory authorities and organizations. The VP Human Resources is responsible for the strategic human resources planning to provide the company with the best people talent available and position the company as the Employer of Choice by being aware of policies, practices and trends within the healthcare industry and of all industries in general.

Responsibilities/Duties/ Essential Functions:

  • Plan, develop, organize, implement, direct and evaluate the hospital’s human resources function and performance.
  • Develop HR plans and strategies to support the achievement of the overall company business objectives from the perspective of the impact on people.
  • Develop comprehensive strategic recruiting and retention plans to meet the human capital needs of strategic goals.
  • Evaluate and advise on the impact of long range planning of new programs/strategies and regulatory action as those items impact the attraction, motivation , development and retention of the people resources of the company
  • Develop staffing strategies and implementation plans and programs to identify talent within and outside the Hospital. Identify appropriate and effective external sources for candidates for all levels within the Hospital.
  • Develop programs to allow the Hospital to embrace applicants and employees of all backgrounds and to permit the full development and performance of all employees.
  • Collaborate with the home office to develop progressive and proactive compensation and benefits which utilize an employee and company partnership for the short and long-range health and welfare protection of the employees.
  • Continually assess the competitiveness of all programs and practices against relevant comparable industry employers and markets.
  • Establish credibility throughout the company with management and employees in order to be an effective listener and problem solver of people issues.
  • Develop appropriate policies and programs for effective management of the people resources of the hospital. Included in this area but not limited only to the following would be programs for employee and labor relations, sexual harassment, employee complaints, employee recognition, external education and career development.
  • Enhance, develop, implement and enforce human resource policies and procedures of the hospital by way of systems that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the Hospital. In particular, manage the human resource information systems database and necessary reports for critical analyses of the HR function and the people resources of the Hospital.
  • Manage the CBA’s including contract negotiations, grievances and arbitrations and other Labor Relations matters by establishing a collaborative working relationship with Union leaders.
  • Establish a process for the regular appraisal of staff competencies along with a process for managers to follow when employee performance is not acceptable according to Hospital standards.
  • Provide technical advice and knowledge to others within the human resource discipline. 
  • Manage the budget and other financial measures of the Human Resource Department. 
           

  • The position requires a BS/BA from an accredited college/university
  • A Masters’ degree in Human Resource Management and SHRM-CP or SCP certification is desired
  • The ideal candidate must have a minumum of 15 years’ leading the HR function in a large organization
  • Must have the ability to bring immediate credibility to the human resources function through professional qualifications and leadership skills as well as project the highest levels of integrity
  • Superior interpersonal communication and presentation skills as well as proven organizational skills are required
