OUR POSITION: We have an exciting opportunity to join our Marketing Team as a Vice President of Marketing & Communications.

The Vice President of Marketing & Communications will serve in a divisional capacity supporting a newly acquired hospital health system. AHS and its partner, The University of Texas System, recently completed the acquisition of East Texas Medical Center Regional Healthcare System (ETMC) in Tyler, Texas. ETMC has been combined with The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler (UT Health Northeast) to create a new 10-hospital health system known as UT Health East Texas.

The Vice President of Marketing & Communications provides leadership for all marketing, communications, research and public relations activities for a wide range of internal and external stakeholders for UT Health Northeast. As a senior level executive, this individual is responsible for developing, directing, implementing and monitoring strategic, operational, fiscal and personnel-related activities for UT Health Northeast. This individual relies on experience and judgment to judiciously plan and accomplish numerous goals while performing a variety of complex multi-step tasks simultaneously.

A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected along with expert writing, editing and public speaking skills. Strict adherence to policies, procedures and regulations are necessary to ensure compliance and patient safety. Working irregular schedules are routine, including some nights and weekends. The Vice President of Marketing & Communications is on call 24/7 to handle crisis communications. A history of successfully managing, mentoring and motivating a sizable, diverse staff is essential. This position reports to the CEO of UT Health Northeast and AHS' VP of Marketing and Government Relations.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the creation, execution and monitoring of the annual marketing plan and budget.
  • Responsible for managing and overseeing numerous marketing strategies to meet measurable business and brand objectives.
  • Works in concert with executive leadership to develop and manage the annual division strategic plan.
  • Monitors local, civic and state legislative activities and provides oversight and guidance to best position the system.
  • Attends, participates and presents reports in numerous professional meetings.
  • Fosters key internal and external relationships and represents the organization at community, business, civic and legislative settings.
  • Develops and maintains positive proactive relationships with the area media.
  • Reviews and approves all sponsorship requests.
  • Seeks membership and participates in local health-related non-profit boards.
  • Lead copywriter and editor for numerous collateral materials, business letters, newsletters, etc.
  • Communicates and listens effectively with internal and external customers; effectively understands instructions and shares knowledge with fellow team members.
  • Professionally manages, motivates and mentors the marketing and communications team.
  • Responsible for annual performance reviews.
  • Works in concert with AHS to expertly manage crisis communications.
  • Precisely tracks and meets budgets for all assigned areas.
  • Ensures patient confidentiality and legal-compliance in all aspects of job performance.
  • Helps improve processes and strategies for more effective outcomes.
  • Takes ownership of assignments and other duties as assigned.



B.A. in Communications, Mass Media, Journalism, Marketing and/or related degree.


  • 10+ years of hospital-based healthcare marketing experience is required.
  • Experience in rebranding is preferred.
